But…..now that I have a son that is totally Blue’s Clues obsessed do they sell that stuff in the store???? Heck no! I had to by a VCR and some Blue’s Clues tapes off of Craig’s List to have around the house. Even Nick Jr. only shows it 1 time a day…..by the way that 1 time a day is usually during something that I want to watch….can I get an AMEN for DVR???
So……I have been at the mercy of hand me downs……garage sale….second hand shops…..for the precious Blue’s Clues items that my son LOVES!
My husband’s aunt is the garage sale queen! She had found a Blue’s Clues puppet and one that sings the theme song when you push his paw! I found the giant pillow one at Goodwill.
Then for Christmas this year….same Aunt…..went to Rock Star status in Chase’s world. The high school that her daughter’s go to, their colors are blue and white and the mascot is the Wildcat and Aunt Paula scored some key rings that were just a blue paw print on them and stuck them all over Chase’s Christmas presents instead of name tags. Chase went around all that day pointing and saying… “A Clue! A Clue!”
Halloween came around and I remembered that my niece, who is 12 now, was Blue for one Halloween. Called my sister-in-law and she still had the costume. Chase wore it non stop for like 3 days!
Anyway all of this…..leads to Chase’s birthday! I wanted to make him something Blue’s Clues. Same niece mentioned above had a Blue’s Clues paw print cake when she was 2 so I went out to make it. By the way…..let me tell you I CAN’T COOK!
Step 1: Get cake and frosting. I just got a white cake mix (my husband is the only one that likes chocolate in this house) and I got some white frosting. I got 2 boxes of each. Then make sure that you have all the ingredients that is needed to make said cake mix. I for one did not…..I will get to that. You will also need blue food coloring, round 9 inch cake pan, cupcake liners, cupcake pan.
Step 2: Start making the round cake. So this is how my Step 2 went. I got out my bowl. Poured the cake mix in there…..put the egg whites in there…..went to get the oil. Wait there is no oil. And my son is asleep so I can’t go to the store. So….what do you do when you have a question? Google it! So Google said you can use applesauce. I had just enough apple sauce to go in the round cake. So put it in there and mixed put in my pan….put it in the oven and I set the timer. Did anybody catch what step I missed in the section????? I didn’t until the cake was done! I forgot WATER! My cake was hard as a rock! Dense as all get out!
Step 3: Panic over the fact that one part of your cake is ruined and I still have cupcakes to make….and I still have no oil! Text my friend Sheila who bales me out and brings me over some Vegetable oil! Thank you Sheila!
Step 4: Make another cake mix for the cupcakes….this time with ALL the ingredients!!!
Step 5: Round cake is done. Attempt to turn it over on a plate for the first time in your life. SUCCESS! I think that happened to due the fact it weighed like 10 pounds.
Step 6: Put 2 cans of icing in a bowl. Squeeze drops of blue food coloring in there until it is the right Blue’s Clues Blue!
Step 7: After cakes and cupcakes are cool, icing the round cake and 4 of the cupcakes for the paw print. And assemble on the cake as so.
Step 8: Only offer everyone the cupcakes that have turned out better than the round cake.
Step 9: Watch your baby that just turned 2 dig in!
