Hi Everybody! Today I have quick tutorial that shows you how to take a not so beautiful Dollar Tree picture frame, pretty it up and give it a little of your own personality, which is what we really want when decorating our homes right?
You will need:
- A U-gly Frame with lots of possibilities from Dollar Tree
- Paint color of your choice (I’m using Martha Stewart)
- Paint Brush
- Distress Ink or Stain (for Aging)
- Felt (if you want to add embellishment)
- Scissors or Pinking shears
- Corresponding Thread
- Hot Glue Gun
Start out by painting away the dark brown ugliness with a sponge brush.
Decide to get newspaper to put underneath your frame since you got the paint our your table twice. Paint until completely covered. ( I did two coats but could have gotten away with one.)
Allow to completely dry. (insert motherly activity here )
Grab your favorite distressing agent. Today I am using Walnut Stain. (I <3 <3 <3 Distress Ink you can get it at Hobby Lobby or Michael)
Slide the ink pad across the frame in a willy nilly fashion. There is no rhyme or reason. We are doing this to simulate age so if it is darker in one area or another it is ok!
Admire the Beauty you just created, then let it dry for about 15 minutes.
I popped it a mono print that the kids and I made and was good to go (eh but not really keep scrolling.)
Now you can stop here and that is great but I wanted to add a little pizazz to my frame and also tie in the red that is in the room I am putting it in. I hopped online and found this great Tutorial from A Hoot and A Holler. Because I like to make thing difficult I put my own twist on it using pinking shears and making it supersized. Cute huh?
Then I hot glued it to the corner, added felt behind the print and Viola! Cute little frame that cost me $1.00 and some left over crafting materials. Can’t beat that!
Here is another example of the same frame style I did a while back. With this one I used an antique white and used stain instead of the Distress Ink. (Those beauties in the pic is my mom, aunties and uncles. I love this pic.)
Now run out to the Dollar Store and buy them out of all the ugly frames they have and show me what you can do!
