The Trouble with Tribbles or How to contain 1,750,001 Hair Bows

image
Ok first before we go any further an you look at my pictures, and decide I am a crazy bow lady , let me splain (as my five year old used to say).  One of my lovely, wonderful, and talented sisters Julie is a bow maker and I get to reap the benefits with getting countless bows for my little miss! Jealous? OH yeah you are!
Reaping the benefits had one disadvantage, they wind up everywhere!  I felt like I was in the Trouble with Tribbles episode of  Star Trek, found them in the car, on the dining room table, her bed, etc. They were multiplying! It was enough to drive me crazy.  I had hair bow holders my sister made but because of her generosity  our cup runneth over!  I didn’t know what I wanted to do with them. I knew I wanted something out of her room where we had it and in the bathroom where we actually fix hair.  After surveying my galley style bathroom I decided the door would be the only logical place.  In several rooms I have repurposed over the door shoe organizers for easy access. The one thing I have discovered about the shoe organizers on the door is that they prevent the door from closing.  (We can’t have a bathroom that won’t close can we?)  I asked my hunky Hubby to assist me with screwing it into the door. He reinforced each screw with a flat metal washer.
Being the Busy Tired and Lazy Sidetracked Home Executive I am, I for a while just threw the bows in willy nilly and this worked but it drove me NUTS! I could never find the bow I needed when I needed it.

One day I decided enough was enough so I set to work (ok really I tricked enlisted my 5 year old to help).  I wanted to use a logical (for illogical me) system.  I color coded  each bow  and made pockets for each, but to further complicate things I made a pocket for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall for all the holiday bows.

I had left over pockets so I labeled them with Sprays, Combs/Brushes, Headbands, Clips, and Rubber Bands.  We fit all of her hair accessories into the shoe holder except for a few headbands which I stuck on this hexagony hanger thingie I think was to hold belts. It works really great! It looks like you could make it out of a coat hanger (hmmm me thinks I found another blog topic).

I am loving the ease in which I am able to glam up my little miss’s hair in the mornings! <3 it so much!
